What we do

Food for Charities brings food that supermarkets/wholesalers would normally throw away to charities and people in need.  This is a win-win-win:

  • It cuts down on the tonnes of perfectly good food that are thrown away every day
  • It provides fresh, healthy food to people who may not otherwise be able to afford it
  • It offers a chance to talk about how to eat healthily and cook ‘new’ foods

Food for Charities started and supports:

Food for Charities is supported by the Abingdon Knit and Natter club, Doris Field Trust, Elsevier, Four Paws, Good Food Oxford, North Hinksey Parish Council, Oxford City Council, Oxford Food Hub, Oxfordshire Community Foundation, Sainsbury’s, SOFEA, Tesco, Vale of White Horse District Council, Wolvercote Community Market and many, many kind individuals.

The wonderful Nick O’Dwyer made a video about the summer of 2020, where Food for Charities organised 70 volunteers to delivery 12,000 food parcels:

If you’re thinking of setting up something similar, have a look at the blogs, and at our information about setting up community fridges.  And if that doesn’t answer your questions, do contact us: we’ll be happy to help.
